EBEC Ghent
A Pyramid
EBEC is an abbreviation for European BEST Engineering Competition and is the biggest engineering competition in Europe. De competition takes place in more than 90 universities all over Europe. The system is a pyramid-shape: every university organises its own local round. The winners than take on each other in one of the 13 regional rounds to reserve their place in the big European final in Zagreb.
A Topic
The local round in Ghent is a Team Design. In this competition teams of 4 people will have to create a solution for a concrete problem using only basic materials. This year NMBS/NSCB co-operates with us.
To give some example tasks of last years: separate a sand-salt mixture, lift a weight using water power, safely guide a load of candy over a river, ...
A Jury
Using a quotation sheet, based on the proposed requirements of the problem, 5 teams are selected. They get the chance to give a presentation and explain their solution to the jury. Out of these 5 teams, the jury selects a winner.
Every year we try to put together a professional and well-balanced jury, representing both the academic and professional world.
Nice Prizes
Like every year there are many nice prizes to win. The wining team also gets a luxury one-week stay in the Ardennes, where the regional round will take place.
