Bedrijf Alcatel-Lucent
Beschrijving Work environment
Joining the Wireline Networks team will open exciting career opportunities at a time when a global leader is changing the way the world communicates. The team is the leading R&D site for Alcatel-Lucent’s IP based DSLAMs success story (DSLAMs are located in central offices and remote boxes of telecom operators).
As the largest telecom R&D centre in Belgium, we were the first to put ADSL on the market. Today Alcatel-Lucent is the market leader in VDSL and our R&D teams are continuously looking for even more bandwidth for all our users, in order to make sure everybody in the world can enjoy triple play (voice, TV and high speed internet) over his telephone cable. Now we are ready to interconnect everyone throughout the world optically with Fiber-to-the-user (FTTU).
Understanding our customers needs, continuously exploring innovative ideas and turn them into successful products makes the difference in our highly competitive telecom industry.
You will help developing the hardware solutions as part of a multidisciplinary team of experts using state-of-the-art technology, design tools and processes. While gaining experience, you can evolve either to a technical expert or to a project team lead.

Goal
As a FPGA/ASIC design engineer you will contribute to the development of our FPGA and/or ASIC designs using a HW description language (VHDL or Verilog). These key components contain a substantial part of our intellectual property and contribute heavily in differentiating Alcatel-Lucent products from those of our competitors. Depending on nature of the project, you could use the latest FPGA technology and density, guide a hardcopy of an FPGA or design your own ASIC.

Your main responsibilities will include:

•FPGA architecture studies
•VHDL or Verilog implementation, verification, synthesis, back-end and board-level integration support
•technical follow up of third parties for FPGA design/layout related activities
•gate level simulations
•verification of your FPGA code on a hardware board in the lab

Your main challenges will be:
•the willingness to accept and overcome challenges
•to think “out-of-the-box”
•to apply creative solutions to complex technical problems
•the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced working environment
•to be able to work both independently and as part of a team
