IAESTE talks: Building the future through internationalisation

IAESTE is best known as the organisation that offers internships to people with a scientific background. What often is forgotten is that we can only offer those internships due to the giant network of local committees all over the globe. To highlight this aspect of IAESTE, the second edition of IAESTE talks pays tribute to other organisations and companies that work together globally on scientific projects.

The first speaker of the evening will be Jonathan Berte, founder and CEO of Robovison (located in Ghent). He leads a team of AI (Artificial Intelligence) computer vision experts. The people from Robovision want to create valuable operational data from the digital explosion that our society is being overwhelmed by, with the help of a new technique called ‘deep learning’. They provide the tools that are necessary to enable AI in different sectors like agriculture, manufacturing and analyzing the human behavior. Internationalisation is a big aspect of the company, as they work almost exclusively intercontinental.

The second speaker is Christian Dierick. He is the Industrial Liaison Officer for Belgium in the ITER-project. ITER ("The Way" in Latin) is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world today. In southern France, 35 nations are collaborating to build the world's largest tokamak, a magnetic fusion device that has been designed to prove the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy based on the same principle that powers our Sun and stars.

During a break and after the presentations you can enjoy a drink at our lovely IAESTE café next to the auditorium. There you can also meet our IAESTE members if you want to know more about our organisation.

We hope to see you there!
