Google datacenters are managed by a team they call Site Reliability Engineers. One of key tasks of the Google Site Reliability Engineers is to keep things up and running.

Because of the scale of Google, this would be impossible without automation and monitoring. Google has developed a monitoring tool called Borgmon, which uses a time series database for monitoring Even though Borgmon remains internal to Google, the idea of treating time-series data as a data source for generating alerts is now accessible to everyone through those open source tools like Prometheus. Prometheus was developed by ex-Google employees.

We wish to implement a proof-of-concept for large customer environments using time-series monitoring with Prometheus. During the course of this project, you will get intimate with large scale mission critical private cloud environments used by large enterprises. You will learn about monitoring and you can discover and implement modern opensource monitoring solutions
