In the sonar framework, developed here in Mouscron, we integrate software components from the antenna electronics side up to the generation of human interpretable images of the seafloor. At Exail we run integration tests to test the entire program end-to-end. However, since the software plugin (FEC) communicates with the hardware (antenna), this requires physical access; thus, we cannot run such tests on the test server. To fix this we have developed a stand in replacement for the plugin called the FEC simulator, which simulates the data coming from the (non-existent) antennas by using pre-recorded data from the actual hardware.
In this internship, you will be working with the team to implement extensions for the FEC simulator as well as configuration options to support different simulated situations. This will involve developing new features on the simulator in C++ and thinking about different possibilities for future features and reworking the configuration interface. Knowledge of Python is a plus, since it will allow the student to work on the code interfacing with the simulator.

• Good command of Dutch or French. Can have a conversation in English. You will work in an international environment
• Knowledge of C++ (and Python), experience with object-oriented programming
• Being able to work in a team, taking initiative in resolving issues and proposing solutions.
• Experience with larger software projects (multiple repositories, JIRA) is a plus
• Experience with cmake, gtest, linux is a plus
